Another extremely common mistake is often seen when in the context of optical networks the common person refers to a patch cord and a jumper. With the phrase, fiber optic jumper the phrase fiber-optic polarization maintaining patch cable is often confused. These are two completely different technologies in reality, although using similar fundamental principles they are built. Upon two fibers the patch is a cable built, but in common practice, they are often referred to even while considering single-fiber cable systems. While this is more of a convention in a practical situation, but technically this is inappropriate.
